06.07.2009: Summertime is travel time - think about your safety

If you are a dog owner who travels a lot with your dog, chances are that you are well equipped. The German ADAC (Automobile club, similar to AAA in the USA or the RAC in the UK) found out that many dogs travel unsecured in cars, especially during holiday season. This is probably due to two reasons: First, we primarily think about the destination rather than the way there ("Do they have the dog-food that we are used to in Italy? Do we have all documents for customs?" etc). Second, the trunk is full with luggage and there is no space left for the dog so it is "temporarily" moved to the backseat. In case of an accident (or even just a hard break), the animal friend will be projected uncontrollably from the backseat with 20-30 times its body weight and can severely injure itself and its human co-drivers.
